Donald at the Bat – Day 1179, Open Up Society (parody to ‘Here Comes Peter Cottontail’)

Day 1179, Open Up Society (1)

Open up society; cure Dow Jones anxiety,

Open business up the first of May.

“Profits first,” says Donald Trump.  What if Covid makes a jump?

Trump says that’s a price we’ll have to pay.

Covid still might threaten Tommy,

Or infect your sister, Sue.

It might also get your mommy

And it also might get you.

But…open up society; stop Dow Jones anxiety.

Open business up the first of May.

Try to do the things you should; social distancing is good.

Keep it up well past the first of May.

“Profits first,” says Donald Trump.  What if Covid makes a jump?

That’s a price we should not have to pay.

As we wake up Easter morning

And see Donald Trump still there,

Health care workers are in mourning;

He’ll spread virus everywhere.

Let’s save our society from disease anxiety.

Keep your distance past the first of May.

Don’t put faith in Donald Trump; He will make new cases jump.

That’s a price we should not have to pay.

That’s a price we should not have to pay.

(1)  May be sung to “Here Comes Peter Cottontail,” by Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins (1949).  I first heard it sung on the radio by Gene Autry, in 1950.
