September 19, Death by Politics

 

Our politics is killing us, worse than the Civil War,

Or the great influenza; Covid 19 has killed more.

It’s due to both stupidity and blind Trump loyalty,

Though Trump is just a grifter; he’s in no way royalty.

 

We have not learned whom we can trust, our scientists or Trump

Or commentators on Fox News, all kissing Donald’s rump.

With Hannity and Ingraham and Carlson on the team,

They daily serve up bullshit they top off with whipping cream.

 

Both Trump and Fox want us to just ignore reality,

Though, in the case of Covid, that leads to fatality.

Our doctors say, “Get vaccinated.”  Biden has agreed.

So crazy Trumpists shake their heads, refusing to accede.

 

How long will Trumpists hold out and commit themselves to die?

How long commit to dying in the service of a lie?

It’s politics that’s killing them, what they choose to believe;

It’s so unnecessary but they’re easy to deceive.

 

And then, of course, the Big Lie, when Trump says he really won.

When asked to show the evidence, they’ve shown exactly…none.

They held a rally to support the insurrectionists;

A small crowd of Trump’s nuts showed up: pus draining from a cyst.

 

As Trumpists die from Covid, is the Big Lie pooping out?

The GOP might go extinct; at least it’s losing clout.

With Red State voters getting sick and dying left and right,

One wonders how long it will take until they see the light.
