November 8, Democracy Is On the Line

Democracy is on the line.

Republicans say that’s just fine.

Democracy means “others” vote

And blacks and browns and Jews combine.

If blacks and browns and Jews can vote,

They’ll sink the Founding Fathers’ boat.

When rich white men were in command,

The Ship of State remained afloat. (1)

If old, rich white men lose command,

Because the “others” all demand

To have a vote on where we go,

Cacophony spreads in the land.

If “others’ vote on where we go,

Then we will see dissention grow.

And now our women want a say

In reproduction: yes or no.

If women get to have a say

On reproduction, we know they

Will want to say a whole lot more

Equality just works that way.

They’ll want to say a whole lot more

And we know they won’t yield the floor.

If old, rich white men lose control

Perpetual debate’s in store.

If rich white men cannot control,

The Ship of State, (the liberal goal)

Right wingers will run it aground

And hit the autocratic shoal.

They’ll run the Ship of State aground.

With jagged boulders all around.

Democracy is on the line;

Autocracy: headwinds abound.
