June 8, Too Many Guns

June 8, Too Many Guns

Whatever the Second Amendment may say,

There are too many guns in the USA.

And too many guns mean that too many die;

The price paid in lives tops a hundred a day.

With too many guns, we have too many die.

“Do something!  Do anything!” their loved ones cry.

The Senate is paralyzed; right wingers stall,

Unmoved by Uvalde, where nineteen kids lie.

The Senate is paralyzed; right wingers stall

Greg Abbott, in Texas, is he moved at all?

They all are in thrall to the gun industry,

Their hands out for cash for elections this fall.

They all are in thrall to the gun industry,

Devotion resembling idolatry.

Such good politicians: they proved they’ll stay bought,

The source of their loyalty, no mystery.

A good politician proves he will stay bought,

And, even if innocent children are shot,

And black lives are sacrificed in Buffalo.

Is this type of ethics a character blot?

Kids slaughtered in Texas, Blacks in Buffalo,

Pandemic mass murder: our morgues overflow:

There are too many guns in the USA.

We’ve proven unable to stop the bloodflow.

With too many guns in today’s USA…

Whatever the Second Amendment may say,

A public health hazard: far too many die.

We can’t manage guns, as we prove every day.
