Gun Control Anyone?

GUN CONTROL ANYONE?
©Stephen M. Baird, MD, July 2012

Folks went to see Batman.
Before it was done
A young man walked in
And shot seventy-one.
Twelve victims perished;
He’s in custody
And pundits chew over
This last tragedy.

The Left says, “Do something.”
The Right says, “You know,
The NRA pays us
A lot to say, ‘NO!’
Ain’t nuthin’ that no one
Can do about this
But pray that God causes
The shooters to miss.”

CHORUS:
We did it again
And we’ll do it again.
Another mass murder –
Our cultural sin.
And nothing is done
And nothing is done
Our culture has made
A god of the gun.

We’ve passed laws before
Then we’ve let them lapse.
Though there are spaces
Between thunderclaps
The storm keeps on raging
In this land of the gun,
Though we pray for comfort,
Prayer won’t get it done.

CHORUS:
We did it again
And we’ll do it again.
Another mass murder –
Our cultural sin.
And nothing is done
And nothing is done
Our culture has made
A god of the gun.
