Donald at the Bat – Day 343

Day 343

Attention turns to speculation on 2018.

Republicans are panicked but are Democrats serene?

Well, not exactly.  Who will win the Senate and the House?

The early odds say Democrats since Trump is such a louse.

Paul Ryan wants to keep on his Ayn Rand revival tour.

He’s got his deficit, so now is surgery the cure?

Will cutting social programs for the poor like Medicaid,

Restore a balanced budget?  No, that’s not enough to raid.

Our really huge expense is for the Pentagon today.

But that’s a sacred cow, so Paul says poor folks have to pay.

Ayn Rand (1) and Calvin (2) argue that the poor deserve their state.

Incompetent or damned, whatever, hell will be their fate.

Ayn Rand is selfish; Calvin says God shows his favored ones

By their estate on Earth.  Is Trump among His favored sons?

Adulterer and liar, business cheater: all well-known.

The winter winds are moaning or did Calvin’s ghost just groan?

The problem for Republicans is selling their tax plan.

Since less withholding tax means bigger paychecks, to a man,

Republicans all praise their bill; each Fox News pundit raves.

They made Obamacare cost more, more than the tax bill saves?

Aye, there’s the rub.  Have they robbed Peter, so they could pay Paul?

More money in your paycheck: health insurance takes it all?

Will jobs come back along with money now parked overseas?

Republicans bet, “yes.”  A rare economist agrees.

Saving Money in the Holidays

Epiphany (tune: O Tannenbaum)

Epiphany, Epiphany, it comes in January.

Epiphany, Epiphany, when sales are customary.

Epiphany the Wise Men came

To give their gifts; let’s do the same.

Epiphany, Epiphany, it’s for the mercenary.

Post Christmas sales, post Christmas sales, will save you lots of money.

Post Christmas sales, post Christmas sales, get something for your honey.

Though there may be six feet of snow,

Just bundle up, get out and go,

Post Christmas sales, post Christmas sales, will make a blizzard sunny.

Epiphany, Epiphany, thy very name entices.

Epiphany, Epiphany, the thought of sales suffices.

It’s time to start your shopping spree;

If Jesus saves, then so should we.

Epiphany, Epiphany, how lovely are thy prices.

  1. Ayn Rand, 1905-1982, Author of “The Fountainhead” and “Atlas Shrugged.”  Founder of the philosophy of Objectivism, basically Libertarian selfishness.
  2. John Calvin, 1509-1564, French-Swiss theologian, best known for the doctrine of Predestination.
