Donald at the Bat – Day 536, July 9, 2018

Day 536, July 9, 2018

The Second Amendment was ratified

On July 9th in 1868.

Provisions some white folks could not abide,

So they went to work in each southern state.

They passed Jim Crow laws, restricted the vote;

More statewide laws segregated the schools.

Their purpose: to dig a deep and wide moat

Between black and white, laws, terror their tools.

“Separate but equal,” the highest court said.

But separate’s not equal; live it, you’ll learn.

Then, in the fifties, courts put that to bed,

Though racial hatred continued to burn.

We humans are a very tribal race.

We are today and to our lasting shame.

It is disgusting this is still the case;

We’re 99.9% the same.
