Donald at the Bat – Day 1401, Oh, Little Town of Washington (parody to “Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem”)

Day 1401, Oh, Little Town of Washington  (1)

Oh, little town of Washington, how restlessly it lies,

Each morning greets a sheaf of tweets,

All filled with Donald’s lies.

While all around the nation, we watch the Covid spread,

Ten thousands die, no wonder why,

For Trump just sulks in bed.

Now Giuliani noisily presents the Donald’s case,

On Fox News slots, in parking lots,

And almost any place.

He spreads misinformation; he goes to court to sue.

It’s no surprise that Rudy lies;

That’s what he’s paid to do.

Since he lost the election, Trump won’t meet the press each day.

He’s asking courts to please abort

What voters had to say.

He’s filed suit after lawsuit, at government expense.

It’s been a rout; they’re all thrown out

For lack of evidence.

Republicans, Republicans won’t say Joe Biden won.

They’ll let Trump cheat; they’ll lick his feet,

Though they all know he’s done.

Results of the election are threatened everywhere.

Democracy?  Autocracy?

Republicans don’t care.

(1)  May be sung to, “Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem,” words by Phillip Brooks, 1868, and melody by his church organist, Lewis Redner.  The  Brits, just to be difficult, use another melody, but Redner wrote the original.
