Donald at the Bat -Day 1395, Thanksgiving in the Age of Covid (parody to “Over the River and Through the Wood”)

Day 1395, Thanksgiving in the Age of Covid (1)

Over the river and through the woods,

To grandmother’s house?  No! No!

The horse knows the way to pull the sleigh

But we’ll say again, “Don’t go!”

“Over the river and through the woods,

“Will help Covid 19 grow,

“Get into your nose, and thrombose your toes,”

Say doctors who really know.

Please, don’t get into your car and drive;

Eat turkey at home this year.

See family on Zoom from your living room.

Tell them, “We wish you were here.”

Yes, do not get in your car and drive;

Watch football and drink and cheer.

Not driving, you will have freedom to swill

Nouveau Beaujolais and beer.

Over the river and through the woods,

We emphasize, please don’t go.

The virus may spread, with many more dead;

Please do not help Covid grow.

Over the river and through the woods,

May lay grandma six feet low.

That’s totally nuts; so, don’t be a putz,

While Covid still spreads, don’t go!

(1)  May be sung to “Over the River and Through the Wood,” or “The New- England Boy’s Song about Thanksgiving Day,” by Lydia Maria Child, 1844.  Lyrics have changed a bit through the years.  The composer of the tune is unknown.
