Darwin Movie Instead of Annual Concert

There is a movie now showing in San Diego called Creation, which is about the life of Charles Darwin and the difficulties he faced in writing The Origin of Species. Considering you are part of a devoted group to this subject, I thought you might want to know that
Creation opened last Friday at Landmark Hillcrest Cinemas: 3965 5th Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103. I’m sure it opened in many other cities as well, so check with your local listings if you are a SGP fan from afar. If you have not seen the trailer yet, here is a link to get you better acquainted with it:

This would be the perfect film to attend on Darwin Day on February 12th instead of the Darwin Birthday concert that is not being performed by The Galapagos Mountain Boys this year. This movie is a ‘natural selection’ for those who need that Darwin Day ‘fix.’

Instead of our annual Darwin Birthday concert, Dr. Baird will be lecturing in Santa Fe, NM at the conference on ‘Creativity and Madness – Psychological Studies of Art and Artists’ about something they have never heard before – scientific creativity using Charles Darwin as his example. The lecture has been scheduled very nicely on February 12, 2010 – the 201st anniversary of Darwin’s birth. Although the band is not with him, he is going to debut a new song for the attendees: “Darwin On His Toast” about a professor having breakfast in a cafe and the waitress seeing the image of Darwin on the toast she serves him. You will hear it next year at our next Darwin Birthday concert in San Diego. If you cannot wait that long, The Galapagos Mountain Boys will be performing the song at the San Diego Science Festival at PetCo stadium on Saturday, March 27th, 2010 and in Washington, DC at the National Science Festival in October 2010.

Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoy the film.
