Darwin Day 2005

Solana Beach, CA, October 16, 2004:

SAVE THE DATE! Darwin Day in 2005 is going to be an event, not just a concert. On Saturday, February 12, 2005, on the campus of Palomar College in San Marcos, we are planning children’s science activities while the adults and parents attend two or three lectures on Darwin, evolution, biblical creation stories or other topics to be determined as the date gets closer. After the kid’s games and the lectures, Scientific Gospel Productions is providing a Big Bang dinner of very gaseous foods to celebrate the origin of the universe. After the dinner, Dr. Stephen Baird and The Opossums of Truth will perform their annual Darwin Birthday concert in the lecture hall.

The day’s events are going to be co-sponsored by the Life Science department and it’s Chair, Dr. Carey Carpenter. The happening will be free to the public only for the kid’s science games in the Life Science quad on campus and the lectures in the auditorium. We will need volunteers to assist us with crowd control in the area where the kids are having fun with science as well as help serving the dinner. Please contact Carol if you are willing to assist with this project (carol@scientificgospel.com or 858-481-0765).

The dinner and concert will cost $30. If you only want to come to the concert, the tickets will be $15. However, tickets will be limited because the concert will take place in the Life Science’s auditorium rather than a theater as in years past. There will only be about 70 tickets available, so as soon as we have the final arrangements, we will begin selling tickets on our website. As in previous years, you may also email or call in your reservations with a credit card guarantee.

This will be the 6th annual Darwin Birthday concert and Steve has written several new songs, some of which are on our new CD, “Breakin’ The Rules,” although the evening will be mostly devoted to Charles Darwin and other heroes and subjects of science. Come back to this site often to find updates about this very special day for friends of the Theory of Evolution and for those who value rational, free thought. Steve and the band are still trying to make the battle against ignorance more joyful and we’re going to take that concept to the kids on February 12, 2005.
