A Deep Scar in Manhattan

A Deep Scar In Manhattan

There’s a deep scar in Manhattan where once two towers rose.

The day they burned and crumbled, it seems eveybody knows.

There were those who sang and danced the day they heard the towers fell.

But most of us stood frozen as if gazing into hell.

We learned nineteen madmen died then and killed three thousand more.

Their goal to crush the infidels and all that we stand for.

And we saw our firemen kneel to pray before they all went in

To do their duty and to fight a fight they could not win.

CHORUS:

There were those who gave their lives to kill and those who died to save.

And when the sun went down they both lay in a common grave.

Though they met their final fates there, who was master, who was slave?

Those who gave their lives to kill or those who died to save?

Nine eleven’s just a number, at least it used to be.

Now, like December seventh, it will live in infamy.

For those full of hate and fear and anger at modernity

Could only hope their suicides ignited World War Three.

CHORUS:

There were those who gave their lives to kill and those who died to save.

And when the sun went down they both lay in a common grave.

Though they met final fates there, who was master, who was slave?

Those who gave their lives to kill or those who died to save?

When the smoke cleared, there were gravestones piled seven stories high –

A monument most would condemn, but some would glorify,

And today the stones are gone and just a hole remains to tell

Of rescuers in heaven, and the murderers in hell.

CHORUS:

There were those who gave their lives to kill and those who died to save.

And when the sun went down they both lay in a common grave.

Though they met final fates there, who was master, who was slave?

Those who gave their lives to kill or those who died to save?

CODA:

Although suicide’s forbidden, whom do you think God forgave?

Those who gave their lives to kill or those died to save?
